AIP | Archival Information Package – contents of a SIP, plus any saved transformed versions of the data files in the SIP or AIP, plus metadata pertaining to these objects stored in the FLVC Digital Archive Management System (DAMS). |
Alma | The next generation integrated library system software product from ExLibris group. |
Aleph | Integrated library system software product from ExLibris. |

APEX | Application Expresss, a web application development tool from Oracle used for report generation. |
Application | A component of a product. A piece of software designed to perform a specific task. For example, the ILS is a product while Cataloging and Circulation modules are applications. |
Archives Florida | A statewide, shared database of EAD-encoded archival finding aids. Any Florida institution with archival holdings can participate. These finding aids describe the contents of some of the collections of organizational records and personal papers held in Florida archives. |
Archon | An open-source archives management software used in the Digital Services Program. It is a software tool for curators of archives and manuscript collections. It is used to create EAD finding aids, linked authority records for creators and subject headings, and other information. EADs created in Archon can be displayed in Archon and/ or exported for import into Archives Florida. FLVC hosts and maintains Archon installations for libraries on request. |
ARROW | Ad-hoc Report Request Over the Web, a collection of reports from FLVC-housed databases currently used primarily by the SUS libraries. |
ASIST | American Society for Information in Science and Technology |
Automated Vendor Stats (AVS) | An automated library service that pulls the statistics from various e-resource vendor’s administrative modules into a consolidated view for each institution. |

CIO | Council of Information Officers, an organization composed of the chief information technology officers within the Florida College System. Also Chief Information Officer. |
CIP | Contributed Information Package, contributed data files, along with any descriptor, submitted by an owner for archiving into the FDA. See also SIP. |
Cloud computing/services | A term used to refer to a model of network computing where a program or application runs on a connected server or servers rather than on a local computing device. |

Content Access Service (CASE) | A service from Innovative Interfaces that makes available comprehensive data, covering tens of thousands of titles across hundreds of information packages. In this way, your library gets the exactpart of the information universe it needs accurately, without concern for missing links or resources that can result in failed patron searches. CASE provides critical access points such as title, ISSN, date range, and URLs. The database is updated continuously. |

CRM (Customer Relationship Management) | Customer Relationship Management, a system for managing a company’s interactions with current and future customers; FLVC uses Microsoft Dynamics CRM system for managing contacts, communications, and pending work. |
CSUL | Council of State University Libraries, the directors of SUS libraries. |
CWIS | Collection Workflow Integration System is software from the Internet Scout Project to assemble, organize, and share collections of data about resources, conforming to international and academic standards for metadata. |
Dark Archive In The Sunshine State, used for the Florida Digital Archive (FDA) at FLVC. It is an open source preservation repository software application used by the Florida Digital Archive. DAITSS provides automated support for the functions of Submission, Ingest, Archival Storage, Access, Withdrawal, and Repository Management. | |
DAMS | Digital Archive Management System, database that provides descriptive and administrative metadata about logical objects and data files stored in the FDA at FLVC. |
DDA | Demand driven acquisition, also referred to as patron-driven acquisition (PDA), is a method used by libraries for collection development where monographs are purchased at their point of need when selected by users from a pool of potential titles. |
Database Administrator (DBA) | The database administrator is responsible for databases, both cloud-based and on-premises, supporting product and application functionality. |
Decision Center | A comprehensive collection management solution which is part of the next gen ILS from Innovative Intefaces, that provides timely and focused action recommendations for budgeting, selection, weeding, floating, shelving allocation, and more. Decision Center helps libraries match supply and demand to deliver optimized service. By accessing current and complete data—including circulation, holds, transits, patrons, and acquisitions—Decision Center provides courses of action that help your library create customer-driven collections while streamlining collection management workflows. |

DR | Disaster Recovery, a plan for protecting and reinstituting system data and functionality in the case of a serious event affecting local facilities or services |
Drupal | An open source content management platform powering millions of websites and applications. |
DW | Data Warehouse, a collection of tables containing Aleph, SFX and NOTIS records organized and normalized for reporting. |
Encoded Archival Description, the international standard for encoding archival finding aids using eXtensible Markup Language (XML). | |

Enhancement Request | A request from a customer for additional functionality beyond the current system functionality. An enhancement request is different from a service request because it indicates that FLVC has not previously agreed to fulfill this request within an expected time frame. |

EPub | Electronic publication is an e-book standard for "reflowable" content from the International Digital Publishing Forum. EPub uses XHTML or DTBook. |
ERM | Electronic Resource Management System from Innovative Interfaces that coordinates electronic journal subscriptions and distribution. |
ETD | Electronic Theses and Dissertations. The Electronic Theses & Dissertations (ETD) program provides storage, web access, and access restriction/ embargoes for ETDs. The ETD program is open to any college or university that wishes to host student-produced materials related to graduation requirements, including (but not limited to): theses, dissertations, senior projects, honors theses, projects in lieu of theses, etc. The service hosts the materials, produces a MARC record for the library catalog to aid in access, and handles embargoes and access restrictions. |

Fixity | The state of being unchanged, or fixed – a term used in digital preservation. |
Fixity checks | Calculate message digests and compare them to stored values. DAITSS uses two different digests calculated by different algorithms for each file. Corrupt files are automatically replaced with uncorrupted master copies when possible. |

FLARE | Florida Academic Repository, a collaborative venture among the members of the Florida State University System (SUS) Libraries and the University of Miami. A Statewide Storage Task Force (SSTF) was established with membership from all eleven SUS Libraries, as well as representatives from the Independent College and Universities of Florida and the Florida College System. |

FCAAS | Florida Center for Advising and Academic Support, served as Florida's one-stop statewide student advising system and maintained the FACTS.org site, now a part of FLVC. |
Florida Digital Archive | Provides a cost-effective, long-term preservation repository for digital materials in support of teaching and learning, scholarship, and research in the state of Florida. The services of the FDA are available to public university libraries in Florida and their partners. The FDA utilizes the Dark Archive In The Sunshine State (DAITSS) software. |
Florida Online Journals (Florida OJ) | A scholarly research online publication service that uses the Open Journal System publishing platform. FLVC will work with faculty directly, or through the library, to publish and/or produce their open access journals. FLVC provides a number of services for electronic scholarly journals under the Florida OJ program, including publishing electronic journals from scratch, hosting electronic journals, and providing access to licensed commercial journals no longer supported by the publisher. Any department, group, or scholarly society associated with a Florida public university or college is welcome to apply to have a journal hosted with Florida OJ. |
Florida on Florida (FOF): | Florida on Florida is an aggregated metadata repository of digital materials related to Florida. It includes all sorts of items including maps, photographs, postcards, books, and manuscripts. The materials in Florida On Florida come from digital collections held by libraries, archives, museums, and historical societies throughout Florida. FLVC supports this service by hosting and maintaining the metadata aggregation system, and by running quarterly OAI-PMH harvests of metadata to update the repository. Any Florida institution with OAI-PMH serving capabilities is welcome to contribute metadata to this project, co-hosted by the Florida Electronic Library. |

ILL | Interlibrary Loan allows patrons to borrow books from a location other than their home library. |
ILS | Integrated library system (also known as a library management system). |
IMLS | Institute of Museum and Library Services, the primary source of federal support for libraries and museums. |
Ingest | The process of data intake into the digital archives. For every combination of file format and FDA project code, one of three preservation levels must be specified - full, bit, or none. This ingest specification is defined by the agreement with the source library. |
Innodb | Database storage engine from Oracle with strong data protection and indexing features. |
IP Address (IP#) | Internet Protocol # is the internet network identifier address associated with your computer hardware. |
IR | Institutional Repository, disseminates an institution’s intellectual products, often managed by the university's library. |
ISBN | International Standard Book Number, a unique identifying code representing a published work. |
ISSN | International Standard Serial Number, a unique identifying code representing a periodical publication. |

Islandora | The open-source software framework designed to help institutions and organizations and their audiences collaboratively manage, and discover digital assets using a best-practices framework used by FLVC. FLVC hosts and maintains the Islandora digital library platform for participating institutions. The FLVC Islandora installation is called “FL-Islandora” and enables participant institutions to manage and present their digital assets on a shared system managed by FLVC. Each participating institution has its own FL-Islandora site with institution-specific branding of the site and its collections, and also has the option to share selected collections with a shared site. |

OpenURL | A link pointing to the copy of the library resource most appropriate to the context of the request, a combination of a base URL and a query string which contains contextual data. |
Oracle | An object-relational database management system from the Oracle Corporation used by the integrated library system and other applications at FLVC. |
Publication of Archival, Library & Museum Materials, an umbrella program supporting the cooperative building of shared collections using common standards. It is a cooperative initiative of the public universities of Florida to provide digital access to important source materials for research and scholarship. The majority of PALMM’s materials focus on Florida subjects. Its projects may involve a single university, or be a collaborative effort between a university and partners within, or outside, of the state university system. Any public university or college in Florida may apply to share digital collections in PALMM. | |

PxPROD | In Aleph, place where Production databases are re-indexed so that PROD is not bogged down. |
