Hello Everyone,

For this issue of the FLVC Library Services Update, I would like to celebrate a major success: migration to Primo NDE (Next-Generation Discovery Experience) as our statewide Discovery Tool and to Mixpanel as our new analytics platform for the Discovery Tool. We went live on these two new systems on July 13, 2026. The migration was fully successful, thanks to a tremendous amount of work by many people across the FCS and SUS libraries, by our dedicated FLVC staff, and by strong collaboration with Ex Libris.

The new discovery tool and analytics platform couldn’t come at a better time for libraries. AI is, of course, rapidly changing how people search for, discover, and use information. Primo NDE will ensure that library users have a current, robust search tool that allows them to quickly discovery library resources to meet their information needs. Mixpanel will allow library staff to analyze and understand, often in real time, how library users are utilizing the discovery tool, in turn enabling libraries to make adjustments to resources and services to better meet the needs of library users.

On the theme of ensuring access to library resources that meet user needs, I want to direct your attention to some statistics that appear later in this Update in the Integrated Library Services section. There you’ll see two sets of stats, one for “FY 2025/2026 Statewide Record Counts” and one for “RapidILL FY Stats.” These numbers might be easy to glance past, but I’d like to put them in perspective.

First, let’s think specifically about “Physical Holdings Records: 14,723,285.” As an undergraduate in the 1990s, I went to a small college with a library that had probably 50,000 books in its collection. For much of my research as a student, that library collection was the bulk of what I had access to. InterLibrary loan was, of course, possible, but it could take a couple of weeks (or more!) to receive the requested item, and I’ll readily say that planning ahead for a research paper maybe wasn’t my strongest skill back then. In short, my research sources were largely limited to the physical contents of that library building at that time.

Today, students at Florida’s state colleges and state universities are in no way limited by the physical boundaries of libraries. Thanks to the single shared Integrated Library System and Discovery tool provided by FLVC, students at all institutions can quickly and easily search the library collections of any or all of the more than 150 libraries across the FCS and SUS. That means that the combined collection of more than 14 million physical items is fully discoverable to all students, faculty, and staff! Perhaps more importantly, FLVC ensures that we have efficient and robust systems in place to enable students to access content. Probably the fastest and most efficient platform for resource sharing is RapidILL, whereby users can get quick (usually less than 24 hours!) access to content, whether it be a born-digital article or a book chapter scanned by another library. And, of course, UBorrow ensures that users can request and receive physical items from across the state quickly and at no cost to them.

These statistics show the incredible value of the shared resources and services provided by FLVC to all members of the State Colleges and Universities of Florida. We’re constantly looking for new ways to provide more and better ways for library users to access content. The recent implementation of Primo NDE and Mixpanel are two ways by which we continue to pursue that goal.
